Starting over can feel daunting, even when we know it’s the best thing to do. As I reflected on Genesis 7:4, where God wasn’t afraid to start over with the flood, it reminded me that new beginnings often require courage, trust, and faith. So why is it so hard for us to start over? Here are three common reasons, plus a bonus one, with affirmations and scriptures to guide and uplift you through each.
1. Fear of Wasting Perceived Progress
Ugh, it feels like starting over can be a drag, like you’d be losing all of your work. This comes with the territory unfortunately.
But what if starting fresh is actually building on the lessons you’ve learned?
• Affirmation: My was not wasted, I learned lessons that will help me in this next chapter.
• Bible Verse: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
2. Worrying About Optics or Imposter Syndrome
It literally feels like (cues Tupac) All Eyes On Me, and the thoughts of how will someone perceive this? What if they see our failure or doubt our expertise? Imposter syndrome can creep in, making us second-guess ourselves. Me included, and it sucks sometimes, but eventually I push through. Kicking and screaming but push through 😂
• Affirmation: I have a unique journey, and will not prove myself to anyone. My worth is not tied to others’ opinions.
• Bible Verse: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” – Hebrews 13:6
3. Lack of Motivation or Vision
I’m tired ya’ll 🥹Sometimes we hesitate because we don’t feel motivated or we lack a clear vision of what’s next. We want everything perfectly in order before we take the first step. Me, again🫣
• Affirmation: I trust that clarity and strength will come as I take one faithful step at a time. We just need a mustard seed y’all.
• Bible Verse: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3
Bonus: Doubts About Whether Entrepreneurship (or Your Path) Is Right for You
When challenges pile up, you might start to wonder if you’re even on the right path. But remember, doubt doesn’t mean defeat—it’s an invitation to seek God’s wisdom.
• Affirmation: I am equipped by God for the path I’m called to travel. I will persevere with grace and courage.
• Bible Verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Final Encouragement:
Starting over doesn’t mean failure—it means faith. Just like in Genesis 7:4, God’s plan may call for a reset, but it’s always for renewal and growth. Whatever you’re facing, trust that He’s leading you into something greater.
